What is oral conscious sedation?

Oral conscious sedation is a sedation procedure that involves taking a prescribed sedative before the appointment and combining that with laughing gas (nitrous oxide) during the appointment. This tremendously helps with dental anxiety and provides retrograde amnesia. You will need a driver to drive you to and from the appointment when getting oral conscious sedation.

What is laughing gas or nitrous oxide?

Nitrous Oxide aka “Laughing Gas” is a mild sedative gas that you breathe through a nose piece while getting dental work done. The nitrous is administered with oxygen and a good balance is determined based on your level of anxiety. Once treatment is completed, 100% oxygen is administered for 5 minutes. This completely removes the nitrous oxide from your system and you are back to 100% consciousness. You are able to drive yourself home after the appointment.
